Air India has announced the launch of nonstop flights between Delhi and Toronto using its newly introduced Boeing 787-9 aircraft, marking a major upgrade for one of its key international routes. The service will begin on August 1, 2026, and will eliminate the current fuel stop in Vienna, subject to airspace availability, significantly improving travel convenience for passengers.

The airline expects the change to reduce the total journey time from Delhi to Toronto by nearly three hours. The current flight duration, including the fuel stop, is around 20 hours, while the upgraded nonstop service will take approximately 17 hours. The return Toronto-Delhi journey will continue as a nonstop flight, with travel time of up to 16 hours.

Along with removing the intermediate stop, Air India will increase the frequency of flights on the route from five times per week to daily operations starting August 1. The airline had temporarily reduced flight frequency during June and July 2026 due to rising fuel costs and global geopolitical challenges affecting aviation operations.

Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said the deployment of the Boeing 787-9 aircraft reflects the airline’s ongoing transformation into a global aviation brand. He highlighted the importance of Canada as a major destination due to its large and active Indian diaspora community, with Toronto serving as one of Air India’s important international hubs.

The upgraded aircraft will offer passengers a three-class cabin layout featuring Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. This will mark the first time travelers on the Delhi-Toronto route will have access to a Premium Economy option.

The Boeing 787-9 will include 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy Class seats. Business Class passengers will receive enhanced features such as direct aisle access, fully flat beds, wireless charging, personal storage areas, and large 4K entertainment screens.

The Premium Economy section will provide wider seating arrangements, additional leg support, adjustable headrests, and upgraded entertainment systems. Economy Class travelers will also benefit from improved seating designs, personal device holders, and high-resolution entertainment screens.

The aircraft will feature more than 3,000 hours of entertainment content, Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB charging options, and power outlets across all cabins. Air India will also introduce refreshed meal offerings, premium tableware, upgraded bedding, and redesigned amenity kits.

With improved connectivity and a more comfortable onboard experience, the new Delhi-Toronto service is expected to strengthen travel links between India and Canada, particularly benefiting business travelers, tourists, and the large Indian-origin community living in Canada.

The post Air India Launches Nonstop Delhi-Toronto Flights first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Support for activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike over alleged irregularities in India’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) expanded beyond the country’s borders, with demonstrations taking place in several major international cities. Protesters gathered in New York, San Jose, London, and Dublin to express solidarity and call for greater transparency in India’s examination process.

The overseas events were coordinated by the advocacy organization Hindus for Human Rights. According to the group, supporters assembled near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in New York City’s Union Square while another gathering was held in San Jose on July 20. Additional demonstrations took place outside the Indian High Commission in London and the Indian Embassy in Dublin, reflecting growing international attention to the issue.

Participants at the rallies displayed banners and placards expressing support for Wangchuk’s campaign while raising concerns about the integrity of the NEET examination system. Demonstrators also voiced criticism of the Indian government’s handling of the controversy and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Organizers said the events were peaceful and intended to draw attention to the concerns surrounding the examination process.

Following the demonstrations, Hindus for Human Rights released a statement explaining the purpose of the coordinated protests. The organization said the rallies were designed to emphasize the importance of fairness, transparency, and accountability in India’s education system. It argued that students should have confidence in competitive examinations that play a crucial role in determining their academic and professional futures.

The advocacy group stated that the demonstrations, held across multiple countries, were meant to send a unified message that Indian students deserve an examination system built on integrity and equal opportunity. It stressed that confidence in public institutions depends on transparent processes and timely responses to concerns raised by students and their families.

The statement further urged the Indian government to engage in meaningful discussions and pursue reforms aimed at strengthening the credibility of national examinations. Organizers maintained that restoring trust requires open communication and effective measures to address allegations of irregularities.

As support for Wangchuk’s campaign continues to gain international visibility, the demonstrations underscore the growing interest among members of the Indian diaspora and global advocacy groups in issues affecting India’s education system. The coordinated rallies reflect broader calls for reforms that ensure fairness, accountability, and public confidence in high-stakes examinations.

The post Hindus for Human Rights backs India protests in US first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar has received major endorsements from senior Democratic leaders in the US House of Representatives, providing a significant boost to his re-election campaign. The support from influential members of the party reflects growing confidence in Thanedar’s political standing and his ability to retain his congressional seat.

For an incumbent lawmaker, endorsements from prominent party figures can play an important role in strengthening campaign momentum. Such backing often helps candidates expand their fundraising networks, increase visibility among voters, and demonstrate strong support within their political organization.

Thanedar’s growing support also highlights the increasing influence of the Indian-American community in US politics. His continued presence in Congress represents the broader rise of Indian-origin leaders participating in American governance and public service.

Members of the Indian diaspora have closely followed Thanedar’s political journey, viewing his success as a reflection of the community’s expanding role in shaping the US political landscape. His campaign has drawn attention among Indian Americans who see greater representation as an important step toward stronger civic engagement.

As the election season advances, the backing from Democratic leaders is expected to help Thanedar strengthen his outreach efforts and connect with voters across his constituency. The endorsements provide additional momentum as he works to secure continued support from party members and the electorate.

The upcoming race is expected to attract attention due to Thanedar’s position as a prominent Indian-American lawmaker and the broader significance of minority representation in American politics. His campaign will be closely watched by supporters and observers interested in the evolving role of the Indian diaspora in the United States.

The post Shri Thanedar Gains Democratic Backing for Re-Election Bid first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

While many IIT graduates pursue high-paying corporate careers or opportunities overseas, Skyroot Aerospace CEO Pawan Kumar Chandana chose a different path after completing his education. Instead of joining the private sector for a bigger paycheck, Chandana decided to work with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), a decision that eventually became the foundation of his entrepreneurial journey.

Speaking about his career choices, Chandana revealed that his initial salary at ISRO was around $480 per month, significantly lower than what many of his peers expected after graduating from one of India’s top engineering institutes. However, he said financial rewards were not his primary motivation. The opportunity to contribute to advanced space research and work on meaningful projects mattered more to him.

Chandana explained that his passion for space technology encouraged him to remain in India rather than move abroad. He found purpose in dedicating long hours to work that contributed to the country’s scientific progress. For him, the chance to be part of India’s evolving space ecosystem was more valuable than pursuing immediate financial gains.

Looking back, Chandana said India’s developing private space sector presented a unique opportunity. At a time when limited policies, investment, and infrastructure made the industry challenging, he viewed those gaps as opportunities to create something new rather than obstacles.

His vision eventually led to the creation of Skyroot Aerospace, one of India’s leading private space companies. The startup emerged during a period when private participation in the space sector was beginning to expand, allowing entrepreneurs to explore new possibilities in satellite launches and aerospace technology.

Chandana also shared advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, saying they should not wait for industries to become fully established before entering them. According to him, once an ecosystem becomes mature with strong policies, funding, and infrastructure, the advantage of being an early participant reduces. Entrepreneurs who take calculated risks, adapt quickly, and enter emerging fields early often gain a stronger position.

He believes Skyroot’s journey demonstrates the importance of timing, determination, and confidence in pursuing ambitious ideas. The company’s early decisions and willingness to take risks during the initial stages of India’s private space revolution have helped position it as an important player in the country’s growing aerospace landscape.

The post Skyroot CEO Reveals Why He Chose ISRO Over Jobs first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) continued its remarkable growth trajectory, strengthening the country’s position as a global leader in digital payment innovation. The platform onboarded 554.9 million users by June 2026, reflecting the rapid adoption of cashless payment solutions among individuals, businesses, and financial institutions.

According to data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI processed 24.16 billion transactions during the financial year 2026, with the total transaction value reaching $3.56 trillion. The latest figures highlight consistent expansion over the past five years, demonstrating the growing dependence on real-time digital payments across India.

UPI transaction volumes have increased significantly from 4.59 billion transactions in FY22 to more than 24.16 billion transactions in FY26. During the same period, the overall value of transactions climbed from $1.13 trillion to $3.56 trillion, marking substantial growth in both usage and financial activity conducted through the platform.

The Indian government, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and NPCI have continued efforts to strengthen the security, reliability, and transparency of the UPI ecosystem. Several measures have been introduced to protect users and improve payment safety, including risk-based transaction limits, additional safeguards against unauthorized mobile number changes, stronger security standards for UPI applications, and the rollout of the Comprehensive UPI Information Security Framework (CUISF) 2025.

Beyond domestic expansion, India has also focused on taking its digital payment infrastructure to international markets through NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). These initiatives have enabled smoother cross-border Person-to-Person (P2P) money transfers and Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments, making digital transactions more accessible for travelers, businesses, and the Indian diaspora worldwide.

UPI services are currently supported through 12 international payment partnerships across countries including Bhutan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, France, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Qatar, Greece, and Cambodia. These collaborations are helping partner nations establish and expand their own real-time payment ecosystems while increasing the global acceptance of India’s digital payment technology.

With continued investments in security, innovation, and international cooperation, UPI is expected to play a larger role in advancing financial inclusion, strengthening India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, and positioning the country as a key force in the global digital payments landscape.

The post UPI Users Reach 554.9 Million as Payments Surge first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

NASA astronaut and physician Anil Menon has offered a glimpse into his early days aboard the International Space Station (ISS), highlighting a medical research project that could reshape healthcare both in space and on Earth. The experiment focuses on producing sterile intravenous (IV) saline solution directly aboard the space station, an innovation designed to support future deep-space missions while also improving emergency medical care in remote environments.

In a social media update shared on July 17, Menon described working inside the station’s Life Sciences Glovebox alongside fellow NASA astronaut Jessica Meir. Meir is leading the IVGEN Mini experiment, which is testing a method to convert the ISS’s drinking water into medical-grade IV saline.

Menon explained that while the concept sounds straightforward, the science behind it is highly complex. The system filters the station’s recycled drinking water to meet pharmaceutical standards before combining it with carefully measured sodium chloride to produce sterile saline suitable for medical treatment.

The project addresses a significant challenge for long-duration human spaceflight. Traditional IV fluid bags typically remain usable for only about 16 months, making them impractical for future missions to Mars that could last several years. In addition, carrying enough emergency IV supplies would require valuable storage space, as a single astronaut experiencing a serious medical condition could need well over 100 liters of fluid during treatment.

As a physician, Menon emphasized the broader impact of the research beyond space exploration. He noted that if astronauts can safely generate IV fluids hundreds of miles above Earth, the same technology could eventually help hospitals operating in disaster zones, military field units, or isolated communities where medical supply chains are limited or disrupted.

The IVGEN Mini project reflects NASA’s ongoing commitment to developing technologies that protect astronaut health while creating practical innovations with everyday applications on Earth.

Earlier in his mission, Menon shared a heartfelt video message from orbit, expressing gratitude to his family, friends, and former colleagues at SpaceX. He also wished his daughter, Grace, a happy birthday and credited his previous team with teaching him how to tackle seemingly impossible challenges.

Menon further acknowledged members of the US Space Force and praised NASA’s long-term vision for human exploration of the Moon and Mars. Currently serving on NASA’s latest long-duration ISS mission, he continues to support scientific investigations and technology demonstrations that aim to advance future space travel while delivering meaningful benefits for people on Earth.

The post Anil Menon Showcases ISS Medical Breakthrough first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

During the farewell meeting, George expressed appreciation for Hagiwara’s efforts in advancing FAO’s initiatives in India and recognized his contributions to strengthening cooperation between the organization and the country. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the secretary thanked Hagiwara for his dedicated service and wished him success, good health, and continued achievements in his future responsibilities.

Hagiwara has been associated with the FAO since 2003 and has built extensive experience in natural resources management over the past 25 years. Before assuming the role of FAO Representative in India, he served as Regional Programme Leader at the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, overseeing programs focused on sustainable agricultural development and resource management.

The meeting also reflected the broader partnership between India and the FAO, which has continued to expand through initiatives promoting food security, agricultural innovation, and sustainable farming practices.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the implementation of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and Social Security Pact, describing the agreements as an important step toward strengthening economic and strategic ties between the two nations. The trade deal is expected to open new opportunities for Indian businesses by providing improved access to the United Kingdom market and supporting a wider range of industries.

Under the agreement, a majority of Indian goods will receive duty-free access in the UK, creating favorable conditions for exporters and helping Indian products become more competitive internationally. The agreement is expected to benefit key sectors, including textiles, engineering products, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, and gems and jewelry.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the partnership will support Indian exporters, small businesses, farmers, and skilled professionals by creating new avenues for growth. He said the agreement reflects the growing economic relationship between India and the United Kingdom and demonstrates both countries’ commitment to expanding trade and investment cooperation.

Industry representatives have also expressed optimism about the impact of the agreement. Business leaders believe reduced trade barriers will encourage higher exports, attract investment, and contribute to employment generation across multiple sectors. Small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which form a crucial part of India’s economy, are expected to gain greater access to international markets through the new framework.

The agreement is also seen as a significant move in India’s broader strategy to expand its presence in global trade networks. By improving market access and reducing costs for exporters, the deal could help Indian companies strengthen their position in the UK and other international markets.

The Social Security Pact included in the agreement is expected to provide additional benefits for professionals working between the two countries by addressing social security-related concerns and improving mobility.

Experts believe the India-UK trade partnership could contribute to stronger economic cooperation, increased business exchanges, and deeper collaboration in areas such as technology, manufacturing, and services. With the agreement now in effect, both nations are looking to maximize its potential and create long-term benefits for businesses, workers, and consumers.

The implementation marks a major milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to establish comprehensive trade partnerships and enhance its role in the global economy.

The post Modi Welcomes India-UK Free Trade Deal Launch first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IANS, the Michigan Democrat emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the world’s two largest democracies while highlighting India’s growing global influence.

Thanedar praised the relationship between Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump, noting that the Indian leader has built positive relationships with leaders across the world. Reflecting on Modi’s previous visits to the United States, he recalled the enthusiastic public response during events held in cities including New York, Houston, and Washington, saying the Prime Minister consistently received an exceptional welcome from the Indian diaspora and supporters.

The Congressman also shared details of his personal meeting with Modi during the Prime Minister’s official state visit to Washington while Joe Biden was serving as US President. According to Thanedar, the two held an extended conversation in which Modi encouraged him to help fellow members of Congress better understand India’s diversity, culture, and ongoing development.

Thanedar said Modi emphasized that India is home to people from different backgrounds, languages, and traditions who continue to coexist while contributing to the nation’s steady progress. The Prime Minister also encouraged American lawmakers to visit India firsthand so they could witness the country’s achievements and development rather than relying solely on secondhand information.

The Congressman revealed that he had previously led a bipartisan Congressional delegation to India and is preparing another visit involving both Republican and Democratic lawmakers. He said the purpose of these visits is to showcase the country’s rapid progress, improvements in the lives of millions of citizens, and India’s rise as one of the world’s leading economies.

Thanedar expressed confidence that India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy within the next few years. He said the nation’s economic achievements should be acknowledged and celebrated internationally, adding that India’s continued growth presents opportunities for deeper cooperation with global partners.

Discussing broader geopolitical issues, Thanedar said closer collaboration between India and the United States would strengthen both nations’ ability to address shared strategic challenges, including China’s growing influence. He concluded by expressing his admiration for Prime Minister Modi, wishing him continued success while reaffirming his commitment to promoting stronger diplomatic and economic relations between India and the United States.

The post US Congressman calls PM Modi a charismatic leader first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
