Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to begin a two-day visit to Gujarat on June 27 and 28, where he will lead the launch of two significant government initiatives focused on cooperative development and public welfare. His itinerary begins in Gandhinagar with the official rollout of Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-based transportation platform designed to offer drivers greater financial benefits while providing passengers with multiple travel options.
The launch event will take place at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar and marks another step in the Ministry of Cooperation’s efforts to strengthen community-owned services across the country. Bharat Taxi has been created as a driver-owned ride-hailing platform that operates differently from traditional app-based services. Instead of charging commissions on every trip, the platform allows drivers to keep their complete fare earnings while also participating in the profits generated by the service.
The new platform enables passengers to book taxis, auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers through a single application. It has initially been introduced in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, with authorities planning to gradually expand operations across India over the next two to three years. During its national launch earlier this year, Amit Shah emphasized that Bharat Taxi is expected to reach every region of the country within three years, making cooperative transportation services accessible nationwide. He noted that the initiative is intended to ensure drivers directly benefit from the platform’s success instead of profits remaining with private aggregators.
On June 28, Shah will inaugurate the PM Family Care Tracker Pilot Project at Gandhinagar Town Hall. The program will begin its pilot phase before being evaluated for broader implementation. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen public service delivery and improve coordination for beneficiary families through better monitoring systems.
The Gujarat visit follows a series of public engagements by the Home Minister. Earlier this month, he participated in International Day of Yoga celebrations in Ahmedabad, where he described yoga as one of India’s greatest contributions to the world, promoting harmony between the mind, body, and soul. The nationwide observance was organized under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” and featured participation from citizens across the country. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also attended state-level celebrations in Gandhinagar district, highlighting the state’s active role in the nationwide event.
Through the launch of Bharat Taxi and the PM Family Care Tracker Pilot Project, the government aims to strengthen cooperative institutions while introducing technology-driven initiatives that support both workers and citizens.
