Alia Bhatt dazzles in Sabyasachi saree at Met Gala 2024

Alia Bhatt, following her remarkable debut on the Met Gala red carpet last year, made her second appearance at the renowned event known as ‘fashion’s biggest night’. Held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Highway actress captivated attendees in a Sabyasachi saree adorned with intricate embroidery and precious gemstones. Her choice of attire was meticulously curated to correspond with this year’s Met Gala theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” showcasing a 23-foot-long train detailed with hand-embroidered florals using silk floss, glass beading, and semi-precious gemstones.

In discussing her outfit, Alia expressed her excitement and preparation for the event, emphasizing the significance of her saree in relation to the theme. She credited Sabyasachi Mukherjee for designing the stunning garment and highlighted the extensive craftsmanship involved, including 1905 man hours and 163 craftsmen.

Alia took to social media to share her look, acknowledging the theme’s inspiration of art and eternity while emphasizing the timeless nature of the saree. She extended gratitude to the craftsmen who contributed to its creation, recognizing their dedication and the collective effort of 1965-man hours.

Explaining her choice of attire, Alia emphasized the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde aesthetics in the Sabyasachi saree. The Met Gala theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” aimed to revive vintage styles alongside a dress code inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story, “The Garden of Time.”

Alia departed Mumbai on May 5 to ensure timely arrival in New York for Met Gala 2024 preparations, marking her second appearance at the global event. Reflecting on her debut in 2023, where she wore a Prabal Gurung couture, she shared insights into her experience, including the challenge of being away from her daughter, Raha.

Following her debut, Alia expressed her admiration for iconic Chanel brides and the innovative designs of Karl Lagerfeld. She showcased her appreciation for pearls and accessories, integrating them into her ensemble with a bow of pearls in her hair, symbolizing her affection for her loved ones.
