India’s long-awaited dream in women’s cricket finally came true as Harmanpreet Kaur’s fearless squad lifted the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 trophy after a thrilling 52-run victory over South Africa in Navi Mumbai. The monumental win, witnessed by a packed DY Patil Stadium, marked a new dawn for Indian women’s cricket, erasing the heartbreaks of 2005 and 2017.
The euphoria wasn’t confined to the field — it echoed across continents. Tech giants Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, joined millions of Indians in celebrating the country’s historic moment. Known for their love of cricket, both leaders shared their excitement on social media.
Pichai compared the electrifying match to India’s iconic cricketing triumphs. “That was a nail-biting Women’s World Cup final — memories of 1983 and 2011 all over again. Congrats to Team India! This win will inspire an entire generation. Great effort from South Africa too!” he posted on X.
Nadella expressed similar sentiments, applauding both teams for their performances. “Women in Blue = World Champions! Kudos to South Africa for reaching their first-ever final. A truly historic day — new legends born, barriers broken,” he wrote, calling it a defining moment for women’s cricket.
Celebrations quickly followed at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters. Secretary Devajit Saikia announced a $6.1 million cash reward for the winning team, coaches, and support staff, commending their exceptional effort. “In 1983, Kapil Dev sparked a new era in Indian cricket. Today, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have done the same for women’s cricket,” Saikia said.
He also acknowledged ICC Chairman Jay Shah’s pivotal role in advancing women’s cricket, citing significant reforms such as equal match fees and a 300% boost in prize money, which now stands at $14 million.
From corporate boardrooms to cricketing arenas, India’s triumph was celebrated as a moment of national pride and global recognition. On November 2, 2025, history was made — and as Nadella aptly said, “new legends were born.”
