India reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its partnership with Chile during the South American nation’s National Day celebrations in New Delhi. Representing India at the event, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (West) Sibi George highlighted New Delhi’s focus on building stronger relations guided by the roadmap shaped during recent exchanges between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chilean President Gabriel Boric. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared images from the celebration on X, noting George’s remarks on the enduring partnership.
The momentum in bilateral ties has grown steadily this year. In July, Prime Minister Modi met President Boric on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Following the meeting, Modi shared his optimism on X, calling the India-Chile friendship “stronger and stronger.”
President Boric had also undertaken a State Visit to India in April, accompanied by a large delegation of ministers, parliamentarians, senior officials, business leaders, media representatives, and cultural figures. The visit coincided with the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations, first established in 1949. During discussions, leaders focused on historic ties, expanding trade relations, people-to-people exchanges, and strengthening cultural bonds. Both nations expressed interest in broadening cooperation across multiple areas of mutual benefit.
Prime Minister Modi also lauded Chile’s active involvement in all three editions of the Voice of Global South Summits. At the third summit in August 2024, Boric’s contributions were recognized as valuable for advancing development perspectives of emerging economies. Both leaders emphasized the importance of reforming global governance structures and ensuring equitable access to clean and green technologies for Global South countries.
President Boric welcomed India’s leadership in advancing South-South cooperation, noting the shared values and convergence of priorities between the two nations. With ongoing dialogues and expanding engagement in diplomatic, cultural, and multilateral spheres, India and Chile continue to strengthen their multifaceted partnership.
