The World Food Movement (WFM), a non-profit organization founded in the United States, has been established to honor the vision of Srila Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, who dreamt of a world where no one suffers from hunger. Rising costs of living have forced many individuals and families in America to make difficult choices between food and other basic needs. WFM is addressing this issue by providing healthy, nourishing meals to students and communities across the country.
Inspired by the groundbreaking work of The Akshaya Patra Foundation in India—the world’s largest NGO-operated school lunch program—WFM is bringing a proven model of large-scale food relief to the United States. Since 2000, Akshaya Patra has provided fresh meals daily to more than 2.3 million children in India through advanced, ISO-certified kitchens capable of preparing up to 100,000 meals a day. Its operational excellence has been studied at institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, and London Business School, while leaders like former US Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have praised its impact and innovation.
Carrying this legacy forward, WFM has already begun pilot feeding programs in New Jersey, New York, and California, with plans to expand nationwide. The official launch is set for September 28, 2025, at the Victoria Theatre, NJPAC, in Newark, New Jersey. The inauguration will be led by Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman of WFM, alongside Sri Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York, with distinguished guests from across the US expected to attend.
The event will also celebrate culture through a live performance by internationally renowned musician Abby V (Abhishek Venkatachalam), an award-winning vocalist and composer known for blending Indian classical traditions with modern sounds. His performance will add a vibrant artistic layer to the historic evening.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa expressed optimism about WFM’s mission: “We are happy to begin the World Food Movement in the USA to serve students and communities. Proper nourishment is vital for citizens to contribute fully to society. Our goal is to restore dignity, promote well-being, and make a lasting difference.”
WFM invites support from governments, businesses, philanthropists, and individuals to help provide abundant, nutritious meals for those in need and to foster a healthier, happier nation.
