India has emerged as the top contributor of billionaire immigrants to the United States, according to Forbes’ ‘America’s Richest Immigrants 2025’ list released on Wednesday. With 12 Indian-origin billionaires, India now surpasses Israel and Taiwan, which each have 11. This marks a sharp rise from 2022, when India had only seven names on the list and was behind countries like Canada and Israel.
Among the standout names is Jay Chaudhry, founder and CEO of cybersecurity giant Zscaler, who ranks as the richest Indian-American in the country. His personal fortune exceeds $17.9 billion, underscoring the growing influence of Indian-origin entrepreneurs in the tech space. Other prominent Indian-Americans featured in the list include Google CEO Sundar Pichai and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures.
In total, Forbes counted 125 billionaires in the US who were born abroad, compared to 92 just three years ago. These individuals hail from 43 different nations, collectively accounting for 14% of the nearly 900 billionaires in the US today.
Their combined net worth stands at $1.3 trillion, making up 18% of America’s total billionaire wealth, valued at $7.2 trillion. The list reflects the increasing role that immigrant entrepreneurs and executives are playing in shaping the US economy—particularly in sectors like tech, finance, and energy.
At the top of the overall list is Elon Musk, the South Africa-born head of Tesla and SpaceX, with an estimated fortune nearing $400 billion, making him the wealthiest person in the world. Google co-founder Sergey Brin, originally from Russia, is the second-richest immigrant, boasting a net worth of approximately $139.7 billion.
Notably, three of America’s ten wealthiest individuals are immigrants, reinforcing the idea that the US remains a global magnet for entrepreneurial talent. India’s ascent to the top of this list in 2025 signals the increasing global success and visibility of its diaspora in the business world.
