India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector continues to gain momentum, recording a 28.6% year-on-year (YoY) growth in total sales in June 2025, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations (FADA). This significant rise is credited to favorable government policies—particularly the Prime Minister e-Drive Scheme—along with expanding investments in domestic EV development and increasing public awareness about sustainability.
In total, 180,238 EV units were sold during June, showcasing robust gains across all segments. Electric passengervehicles (e-PVs) experienced exceptional growth, with sales rising nearly 80% YoY—from 7,323 units in June 2024 to 13,178 units this year. Their market share within total EV sales increased from 2.5% to 4.4%, underscoring growing consumer confidence in electric cars.
The electric two-wheeler segment continued to thrive, logging 105,355 units, marking a 31.69% YoY increase. These vehicles now represent 7.3% of all two-wheeler sales in India, as affordability and wider availability attract more buyers.
Electric three-wheelers remained the most dominant segment in terms of volume. Sales climbed 15.79% YoY to 60,559 units, accounting for 60.2% of total EV sales. Their popularity in last-mile delivery and public transport continues to drive consistent demand.
Although smaller in absolute numbers, electric commercial vehicles posted the highest growth rate at 122.5% YoY, reflecting increased fleet electrification in logistics and public transport.
Overall, retail vehicle sales across all categories in India surpassed the 2 million mark in June 2025, up 5% from June 2024, indicating steady consumer demand across the board.
FADA President C.S. Vigneshwar highlighted the pivotal role of government efforts, especially the PM e-Drive Scheme, in accelerating EV adoption. He also emphasized the impact of growing charging infrastructure, financial incentives, and increased R&D investments in aligning the EV shift with India’s energy security and climate goals.
As India continues to build an ecosystem supportive of clean mobility, the rise in EV sales signals a major shift in consumer preferences and industry focus—positioning the country as a fast-emerging leader in sustainable transportation.
