Google has officially begun rolling out its much-anticipated AI Mode in Search for users across India, starting with English-language support. This follows what CEO Sundar Pichai described as an “incredible response” to the feature during its initial trial phase in Google Labs.
In a post on X, Pichai shared the update, calling the feature a “total reimagining of Search” and expressing excitement about making it available to a broader audience in India.
The announcement was also detailed in a blog post by Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management for Search, who said that AI Mode was first introduced as an experimental feature in Labs back in June. The feedback from users, she noted, had been overwhelmingly positive, particularly in terms of the feature’s speed and the quality of its responses.
“Today, we’re excited to bring AI Mode to all users in India,” Budaraju wrote. “It’s now easier than ever to ask Google anything — whether you’re learning something new, navigating a how-to, or diving deeper into a topic — and get a helpful, AI-generated response.”
She confirmed that the rollout will no longer require users to sign up for Labs. Instead, users will gradually begin to see a new “AI Mode” tab directly in Google Search and in the search bar of the Google app over the coming days.
All functionalities from the Labs version will be included in the public rollout. Users can type their questions, speak to the search engine, or even use Google Lens to upload a photo — and receive detailed AI-powered responses enriched with helpful links. The feature is designed to support deeper exploration and contextual understanding with options for follow-up queries.
Budaraju emphasized the feature’s potential to help users “explore their curiosity and better understand the world around them,” describing it as a new, end-to-end AI search experience.
With this move, Google positions itself at the forefront of AI-integrated search technology in India, aiming to transform how people interact with information online through a seamless, intuitive experience.
