Vietnam and India continue to solidify their strategic partnership with renewed efforts in trade, investment, and global cooperation. Vietnam’s Ambassador to India, Nguyen Thanh Hai, emphasized the growing economic ties between the two nations, setting an ambitious bilateral trade target of $15 billion. Speaking with ANI, the ambassador acknowledged that the ongoing success in trade and investment stems from a foundation of robust political ties and a long-standing friendship between the two countries.
Hai pointed out that this comprehensive strategic partnership has flourished in recent years, fueling optimism on both sides. He noted that ongoing dialogue with Indian government bodies and local business chambers—such as his recent meeting with the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in West Bengal—continues to foster mutual cooperation and explore new opportunities for economic engagement.
Expressing confidence in the long-term trajectory, Hai said Vietnam remains committed to strengthening its partnership with India, particularly in sectors like trade, infrastructure, and innovation. With steady progress already underway, both nations see immense potential in leveraging their shared goals for regional stability and economic growth.
On the global front, Vietnam also marked a significant diplomatic milestone by becoming the tenth partner country in the BRICS group. Brazil’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Vietnam’s inclusion in June 2025, alongside other nations such as Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. This expansion aligns with the BRICS vision of creating an inclusive and multipolar world order.
The announcement came during the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro on July 6–7, 2025. During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s support for inclusive global governance and institutional reforms. Calling for updates to entities like the UN Security Council and WTO, Modi stated that BRICS’ growth showcases its adaptability in a rapidly changing world.
Vietnam’s inclusion as a BRICS partner country and its growing alliance with India signal a broader shift toward greater collaboration across the Global South. With shared ambitions and aligned strategic goals, the two nations are charting a course toward deeper regional and international influence.
