The investigation into the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171 has entered a vital phase as officials successfully recovered the second black box—officially known as the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)—on Monday. This development follows the earlier discovery of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), found atop a nearby building shortly after the crash in Ahmedabad.
The CVR plays a critical role in aviation investigations. It records all sounds inside the cockpit, including pilot conversations, radio transmissions, warning signals, and background mechanical noise. This data enables crash investigators to reconstruct the final moments of a flight in extraordinary detail, down to each second.
Officials confirmed that the retrieval of the CVR is expected to provide key insights into the circumstances that led to the fatal crash on June 12. The flight, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London, was carrying 242 people when it plummeted moments after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, crashing into a medical college complex in the Meghaninagar area.
With both the CVR and FDR now secured, authorities are equipped to conduct a thorough analysis of what transpired in the cockpit and how the aircraft’s systems functioned in those crucial final moments. The black boxes are regarded as the most reliable sources of information in post-crash investigations and will be instrumental in identifying any technical failures, communication gaps, or human errors that may have contributed to the disaster.
The CVR’s recordings will be analyzed alongside the flight data to piece together a full and objective account of the incident. Investigators and aviation safety experts are hopeful that the data will help answer the pressing questions surrounding the sudden and catastrophic end to Flight AI-171.
The retrieval of these vital components marks a major milestone in the ongoing investigation, and the findings are eagerly awaited by both authorities and the public as they seek closure and accountability in the wake of this devastating tragedy.
