On June 6, 2025, India hosted the 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue in Delhi, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated the event alongside top Central Asian leaders. The delegation included Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev, and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.
This high-level dialogue marks a significant step in strengthening the longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties shared between India and the Central Asian region, often regarded as each other’s ‘Extended Neighbourhood.’ The relationship has deep roots stretching back thousands of years, fostered by rich cultural exchanges and continued through modern diplomatic channels. The previous meeting, held in December 2021 in New Delhi, and the first virtual India-Central Asia Summit in January 2022, have laid the foundation for advancing cooperation.
During this fourth session, ministers focused on expanding collaboration in several critical areas, including trade, connectivity, technology, and development initiatives. They also exchanged views on regional security concerns and broader geopolitical issues affecting both sides, aiming to promote stability and mutual growth.
Additionally, on June 5, the foreign ministers participated in the India-Central Asia Business Council meeting organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), emphasizing the economic dimension of this strategic partnership.
The India-Central Asia Dialogue represents a mutual commitment to deepen ties, foster trust, and build a robust, multifaceted alliance that reflects shared interests and long-term friendship. This ongoing dialogue is vital for both India and Central Asian countries to address regional challenges while exploring new avenues for cooperation in the years ahead.
