Dassault, Tata to Manufacture Rafale Fuselage in India
In a significant boost to India’s aerospace capabilities, Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have signed four production transfer agreements to manufacture the Rafale fighter aircraft fuselage in India.
Under this agreement, Tata will set up a state-of-the-art production facility in Hyderabad to build key structural sections of the Rafale, including the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, the full rear section, central fuselage, and front section.
The facility is expected to begin output by 2028, with a planned production capacity of up to two complete fuselages per month.
For the first time, Rafale fuselages will be produced outside France. This marks a major step in strengthening the supply chain in India. With partners like TASL, the supply chain is expected to meet global standards of quality and competitiveness.
The collaboration supports India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, which aim to promote domestic defence manufacturing and economic self-reliance.
The production of the complete Rafale fuselage in India reflects the growing trust in Tata Advanced Systems and highlights India’s progress in building a modern aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
This development will also help India become a key player in the global aerospace supply chain and strengthen its position as a defence manufacturing hub.
India had earlier signed a ₹63,000 crore deal with France for the purchase of 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities. The deal includes 22 single-seaters and 4 twin-seater trainers, with all deliveries expected to be completed by 2031.
