The devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including a foreign national, has triggered widespread international outrage. The United States and other international powers have expressed their steadfast support for India following this tragedy.
US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard extended her condolences and reiterated Washington’s support for India in bringing the perpetrators to justice. She expressed solidarity with India following the terrorist attack targeting Hindus, offering sympathies to the victims’ families, Prime Minister Modi, and the Indian people, and pledged continued assistance in the pursuit of justice.
President of the United States, Donald Trump, also expressed his disapproval of the attack, describing it as “extremely troubling.” He assured Prime Minister Modi of America’s ongoing support, saying, “The United States is committed to standing with India in its battle against terrorism. We grieve for the victims and hope for a swift recovery for those injured.”
The attack unfolded when gunmen opened fire on a busy tourist spot near Pahalgam, known as ‘mini Switzerland.’ Eyewitnesses recounted the terror, with the assailants targeting visitors enjoying picnics, pony rides, and dining at local establishments. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, took responsibility for the assault.
Investigations have uncovered clear evidence connecting the attackers to Pakistani-controlled regions, including areas illegally occupied by Islamabad. Victims were allegedly forced to demonstrate their loyalty to Islam before being executed, underscoring the religiously driven nature of the massacre. This act of terror sparked widespread protests across India and Kashmir, condemning both the violence and Pakistan’s role.
Following a high-level security review led by Prime Minister Modi, the Indian government confirmed the cross-border nature of the attack, indicating that the assault aimed to disrupt the region’s peaceful electoral process and its ongoing economic progress.
In response to rising tensions, Pakistan has closed its airspace to Indian flights and heightened aerial surveillance along its borders, likely fearing retaliatory military action.
International condemnation of the attack has been swift. World leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, have all expressed solidarity with India, affirming its right to seek justice for those behind the attack.
