Anil K. Agrawal, the Herbert G. Kayser Professor of Civil Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY), has been awarded the 2025 Moisseiff Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was honored for his paper, “Reliability-Based Framework for Structural Robustness Evaluation of Bridges,” published in the April 2024 issue of the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering.
The study introduces a new framework for assessing bridge robustness across short, medium, and long spans, evaluating their safety in both intact and damaged conditions. This approach is expected to guide critical design and retrofit decisions for infrastructure. The Moisseiff Award is one of ASCE’s most prestigious honors, recognizing groundbreaking contributions to structural engineering.
Agrawal credited his former students and research collaborators for their contributions, acknowledging their role in advancing bridge safety. His co-authors include Qian Chen and Hong-Fan Wang (CCNY Grove School of Engineering), Sherif El-Tawil (University of Michigan), Baidurya Bhattacharya (University of Delaware), and Waider Wong (former Federal Highway Administration Project Manager).
A Distinguished Member of ASCE, Agrawal has held leadership positions, including past chief editor of the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering and chair of multiple ASCE committees. He has received numerous accolades, including the 2022 NJDOT Research Implementation Award and the Raymond C. Reese Research Prize.
With over 132 peer-reviewed papers, 26 major reports, and 200+ conference publications, Agrawal continues to make significant contributions to civil engineering. His recognition underscores CCNY’s long-standing commitment to research and innovation in infrastructure safety.
