Sudha Setty, an Indian-American legal scholar and the current dean of the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law, has been named the new president and CEO of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), effective July 1. Setty succeeds Kellye Testy, who left LSAC to become the executive director and CEO of the Association of American Law Schools.
In her statement, Setty expressed honor at being selected for the role, noting that LSAC’s work in expanding access to legal education is more crucial than ever. She emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing key challenges facing law schools, including preserving the rule of law and promoting diversity and excellence in legal education.
Prior to joining CUNY, Setty served as dean of the Western New England University School of Law and was the first woman of South Asian descent to hold such a position at an American Bar Association-accredited law school. She has a history of promoting social justice and public interest lawyering, having led initiatives such as the expansion of CUNY Law’s Pipeline to Justice program and the founding of the First Impressions Youth Legal Collaborative.
Setty is a recognized scholar in national security and comparative civil rights law, with a JD from Columbia Law School. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute and has contributed to the Journal of National Security Law and Policy.
Setty’s appointment marks a new chapter for LSAC, which plays a vital role in supporting law schools and applicants, most notably through administering the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
