This Diwali, Ayodhya radiated with unprecedented vibrancy, hosting its inaugural Deepotsava since the installation of Ram Lalla in the newly constructed Ram Mandir. The city was alive with color and enthusiasm, welcoming countless visitors and devotees to partake in this momentous occasion. Descriptions like “Incredible,” “Divine,” and “Energetic” scarcely encapsulate the lively atmosphere of Ayodhya during the celebrations.
On Wednesday, the festivities soared as Ayodhya accomplished two remarkable feats, earning Guinness World Records. With support from the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department and the Ayodhya District Administration, the city set a new record for the largest array of oil lamps, featuring an astonishing 2,512,585 diyas illuminating the Saryu River’s banks. Additionally, a grand aarti saw 1,121 participants collectively performing ‘diya’ rotations, exemplifying the unity in their devotion.
Dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, attended the event, enjoying an impressive fireworks display that illuminated the night sky. This year’s Deepotsava is especially significant, marking the first celebration since the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony, when Lord Ram was officially enthroned in the temple.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath proudly accepted the certificates for the newly established Guinness World Records, showcasing the remarkable nature of the festivities, which brought together thousands of people in a shared sense of joy.
The celebrations continued with an enchanting laser and light spectacle gracing Saryu Ghat, transforming the riverbank into a magical scene. One of the standout features was a stunning sound and light performance narrating the tale of Ram Leela, captivating audiences along the riverfront. The 2.5 million diyas symbolized the triumph of light over darkness, fostering unity and joy among attendees.
Deepotsava also showcased 18 colorful tableaux, each depicting significant events from Lord Ram’s life, crafted by the state’s Information and Tourism Departments. This five-day festival commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after a 14-year exile, celebrating the city’s rich culture and drawing millions from across the nation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to this Diwali as “extraordinary,” noting that it is the first celebration with Lord Ram in his majestic temple at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi. He expressed, “After 500 years, Lord Ram is finally enshrined in his magnificent temple, making this the first Diwali celebrated with him here!”
As the Festival of Lights, Diwali signifies the victory of good over evil. In preparation for the celebrations, families adorn their homes with colorful rangoli designs, lighting diyas and decorative lights. The festivities involve prayers to Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity, sharing sweets and snacks, and exchanging gifts with loved ones. Fireworks light up the sky, adding to the joyful atmosphere. Diwali 2024 is centered around togetherness, reflection, and spreading happiness as everyone embraces the new year.
Since its inception in 2017, Deepotsava has grown into a significant celebration, turning Ayodhya into a vibrant center that draws millions of visitors each year. The event has spurred local businesses, with the emergence of new hotels and nightlife enhancing the allure of Ayodhya.
