SAP Labs India, the largest research and development center for German software giant SAP outside its headquarters, is rapidly advancing its AI initiatives, according to Managing Director Sindhu Gangadharan. As the company moves forward with the construction of a massive new campus in Bengaluru, set to be completed by 2025, it aims to solidify its position as a leader in AI innovation globally.
Gangadharan highlighted that artificial intelligence, including generative AI, is transforming businesses by allowing them to reimagine customer experiences and operational processes. SAP Labs India is at the forefront of this shift, focusing on Custom AI and multi-agent AI to empower businesses with tailored, cutting-edge AI solutions that optimize performance and decision-making.
Currently, SAP Labs India employs 15,600 people, with 13,600 focused on core R&D. The company’s presence across five Indian cities, including its largest hub in Bengaluru, is driving technological growth. Gangadharan also emphasized India’s unmatched AI talent, which constitutes 16% of the global AI workforce, making the country a critical player in the global AI landscape.
The new Bengaluru campus will span over 41 acres and is expected to accommodate 15,000 employees once all three phases are completed. The first phase, costing €80 million, is projected to be finished by the second quarter of 2025, enhancing SAP Labs’ capacity to deliver world-class AI innovations from India to the world.
