The Indian community of Centallo and the province of Cuneo had long dreamed of establishing a Hindu temple, and as of early June, this dream is beginning to materialize. The temple is slated to be constructed in the industrial area of Madonna dei Prati on the northern outskirts of town. Currently, the site is marked by an orange construction fence, with excavation work for the foundation set to commence shortly. The project is being undertaken by the Ariaudo company, following a design by architect Michele Marengo, with the municipal building permit issued on 17th May. The goal is to have the temple completed by the end of this year or early 2025.
Rajendra Singh, a resident of Busca, shared that the idea had been brewing for a couple of years. He and fellow community members felt a deep-seated need to preserve their religious and cultural heritage for themselves and future generations born and raised in Italy. Through a fundraising effort involving over 100 people from the community, they successfully pooled resources to purchase the land and cover the construction costs.
Located amidst the Italian countryside about 50 miles south of Turin, this temple will be Piedmont’s first purpose-built Hindu temple. Unlike other temples in the region, which are housed within existing structures adapted for worship, this temple will feature a modern exterior blending with the industrial surroundings, complete with green spaces and parking facilities. Inside, it will be adorned with statues, sacred images, and vibrant carpets, providing a space for the community to gather, worship, and maintain their cultural identity.
