The recent monthly meeting of the Long Island Indo-American Lions Club featured a noteworthy initiative as they distributed blankets to aid the community in coping with the harsh winter conditions. This charitable effort was part of their ‘Spread the Warmth’ project, spearheaded by Sanju Sharma, the project chair, and co-chair Anchit Aery.
Various organizations, including the Disabled American Veterans, All War Veterans homeless veterans, Nassau County Social Services Department, local homeless shelters, the Roosevelt Bible Church distribution center, and the Martin Luther King Center of Long Island, received the donated blankets.
Expressing the critical need for warmth during freezing weather, Sharma urged representatives from each organization to introduce themselves at the event. Gratitude was extended to Club president Shyam Gajwani, founder president Indu Gajwani, senior vice president Kanak Golia, vice president Anju Sharma, treasurer Vijay Shah, co-chair Anchit Aery, and the entire team for their contributions to the successful execution of the donation drive.
The Lions Club, guided by their motto “WE SERVE,” has a history of undertaking charitable projects for the underprivileged, led by President Shyam Gajwani. A club statement emphasized the humbling experience for members while actively participating in spreading warmth during challenging seasons.
In the subsequent phase of the project, additional blankets were distributed to the Pamanock Queens Community Center, United Methodist Church, and the Town of Oyster Bay, expanding the reach of their impactful initiative.
