Reliance Jio’s Chairman, Mr. Akash Ambani, disclosed that the company has successfully deployed over a million 5G cells across all 22 circles in India, amounting to 85% of the country’s total 5G capacity. He emphasized that Jio’s 5G rollout is underpinned by an entirely indigenous 5G stack, developed and manufactured by Indian experts.
Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2023, Mr. Akash Ambani highlighted Jio’s capability to provide 5G connectivity to more than 200 million previously unconnected homes and premises, positioning India as a global broadband leader. He also pointed out that India has already reached over 125 million 5G users, making it one of the top three 5G-enabled nations, and expressed optimism about the transformative potential of 5G in creating new job opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship.
Notably, Jio recently introduced the JioBharat 4G feature phone, available at a price of Rs. 999 (approximately $12.01), with the aim of eliminating digital exclusion in India.
At the India Mobile Congress 2023, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited unveiled JioSpaceFiber, the nation’s first giga-fibre service based on satellite technology, designed to bring high-speed internet access to previously underserved regions of India. Through a collaboration with SES and the utilization of medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, Jio aims to deliver unique Gigabit, fiber-like services from space. The service has already been tested in four remote locations: Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur in Odisha, and ONGC in Jorhat, Assam.
