Ambuja Cements Limited has unveiled an ambitious expansion strategy involving an investment of approximately $1.53 billion to increase its cement manufacturing capacity to 155 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by fiscal year 2030. The announcement highlights the company’s long-term growth ambitions as India’s infrastructure development and housing requirements continue to drive demand for construction materials.
The company currently operates with an installed production capacity of 113.5 MTPA and expects to raise this figure to 119 MTPA by March 2027. The proposed investment will further strengthen its manufacturing network, with new capacity planned across six states: Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. These developments are expected to improve production capabilities and help the company serve important regional markets more efficiently.
India’s expanding infrastructure sector, alongside increasing requirements for residential and commercial construction, has encouraged cement manufacturers to strengthen their production facilities. Ambuja Cements’ latest expansion plan is designed to position the company to accommodate anticipated consumption growth while supporting major construction and development activities across the country.
The investment announcement follows the company’s latest quarterly financial performance, which showed a 34.7% reduction in net profit. Higher fuel and freight expenses were identified as significant contributors to the decline, highlighting the cost pressures affecting its operations.
Despite these financial challenges, Ambuja Cements is continuing with its long-term manufacturing expansion strategy. Increasing production capacity to 155 MTPA is expected to reinforce its competitive presence in India’s cement market and improve its ability to meet future requirements.
The planned investment also reflects the broader growth opportunities emerging in India’s construction and infrastructure industries. By expanding its facilities across key regions, the company aims to strengthen its operational reach and prepare for rising demand over the coming years.
