India and Poland are seeking to deepen their strategic partnership, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar meeting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss opportunities for broader cooperation between the two nations. The meeting comes as both countries look to expand their engagement across economic, technological, defense, and other strategic sectors.
In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed his pleasure at meeting Tusk and welcomed the Polish leader’s views on strengthening bilateral ties across multiple areas. He also expressed anticipation for Tusk’s discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which are expected to advance the relationship between the two countries.
Modi and Tusk are scheduled to hold bilateral talks covering ways to expand cooperation and address regional and international developments of shared concern. Their agenda includes defense manufacturing, trade, emerging technologies, space exploration, and renewable energy. The leaders are also expected to review security challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, alongside developments in India-European Union relations.
Tusk arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening for a three-day official visit focused on strengthening political and economic engagement. Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary received the Polish prime minister at the airport.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and reinforce the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
Tusk is accompanied by Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domanski, as well as a senior business delegation. In addition to diplomatic meetings, the visiting delegation is participating in business engagements designed to identify opportunities for commercial collaboration.
An India-Poland Business Forum is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on October 22 and Bengaluru on October 23. The meetings are expected to bring together business representatives and stakeholders interested in expanding economic ties between the countries.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this is Tusk’s second visit to India as Polish prime minister, following an earlier visit in 2010 during his previous tenure. Modi and Tusk last met in 2024, when the Indian prime minister visited Warsaw and the two countries elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership.
Following his engagements in the national capital, Tusk is scheduled to travel to Bengaluru, where he will meet business leaders, including representatives from the information technology and space industries.
The visit highlights the growing importance both countries attach to closer cooperation, particularly in strategic industries, advanced technologies, and trade. The discussions and business forums could help establish new avenues for investment and collaboration while strengthening India’s engagement with Poland and the wider European Union.
