Meta has appointed Indian-origin technology executive Chirantan “CJ” Desai, the outgoing chief executive of MongoDB, to lead its newly established Meta Enterprise Platform. The appointment marks a significant step in Meta’s efforts to expand beyond consumer-focused artificial intelligence products and establish a stronger presence in the enterprise technology market.
Announced alongside the launch of the new platform, Desai’s appointment places an experienced software industry leader at the center of Meta’s strategy to bring its AI capabilities to businesses. The initiative is designed to help organizations integrate artificial intelligence into their daily operations, customer interactions, and business workflows.
According to Meta, the Meta Enterprise Platform will combine the company’s expanding AI technologies into products and services that businesses and developers can deploy at scale. Its offerings include Muse, Meta’s personal AI assistant; Meta Business Agent; Muse API; Muse Code; and additional AI tools designed for enterprise users and software developers.
The initiative builds on the introduction of Muse earlier in September. The AI assistant is designed to perform practical tasks, including sending emails and booking travel. Through its enterprise platform, Meta aims to make such capabilities more accessible to organizations seeking to incorporate AI into their operations.
Desai brings substantial experience in enterprise technology to his new position. Before joining Meta, he led MongoDB, a prominent database software company that provides technology for managing and developing modern applications.
In a statement announcing the initiative, Desai highlighted AI’s potential to transform how organizations innovate, serve customers, and manage operations in the coming years. He said the new platform would focus on converting Meta’s AI technology into practical products and services that businesses can implement across their operations.
His appointment comes as major technology companies compete to develop commercial AI solutions for corporate customers. Meta’s new business reflects its ambition to turn its AI investments into tools that organizations can use to improve productivity, automate tasks, and develop new services.
The leadership transition has also affected MongoDB. Following news of Desai’s departure, the company’s shares reportedly declined by more than 17%, reflecting the market reaction to the executive change.
MongoDB subsequently appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim chief executive while its board searches for a permanent successor. Ittycheria previously served as the company’s CEO.
Desai’s move to Meta represents a leadership transition for MongoDB and a new phase in Meta’s enterprise AI ambitions, as the company seeks to expand the commercial applications of its artificial intelligence technologies.
