Global automation company Emerson has appointed Indian American technology executive Rudy Sengupta as its Senior Vice President and Chief Technology and AI Officer, reinforcing the company’s commitment to advancing artificial intelligence across its industrial automation and software businesses.
Based in St. Louis, Emerson develops automation technologies, intelligent devices, and software solutions that help industries improve operational efficiency and productivity. Sengupta will officially assume his new position on August 15 and become part of the company’s Office of the Chief Executive. He will succeed Peter Zornio, who is scheduled to retire at the end of the year after serving Emerson for 20 years.
Before his promotion, Sengupta served as Vice President and General Manager of Test and Analytics Software within Emerson’s Test & Measurement division. He joined the organization following Emerson’s acquisition of NI, where he played a significant role in expanding software capabilities and integrating artificial intelligence into the company’s products. His leadership also contributed to the growth of recurring software revenue while broadening the business’s focus on advanced testing workflows and data analytics.
In his new role, Sengupta will oversee Emerson’s global technology strategy, leading initiatives across industrial software, automation systems, and intelligent devices. He will also play a central role in advancing the company’s Enterprise Operations Platform, a solution designed to help customers move toward more autonomous and data-driven operations.
Emerson President and Chief Executive Officer Lal Karsanbhai praised Sengupta’s contributions to the company, noting that his expertise and leadership have been instrumental in the success of the Test & Measurement business. He expressed confidence that Sengupta’s experience in artificial intelligence and technology innovation will help accelerate product development, strengthen collaboration across business units, and support the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Karsanbhai also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing technology leader Peter Zornio, thanking him for helping drive innovation during a period of significant business transformation and supporting a smooth leadership transition.
Sengupta said he is honored to take on the new responsibility and intends to build on Emerson’s history of innovation. He emphasized the importance of integrating intelligent, data-driven technologies into everyday industrial operations, enabling customers to make faster decisions, improve efficiency, and address increasingly complex business challenges through advanced AI-powered automation.
