
India’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Mridul Kumar, held a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at Zurich Airport while the minister was returning to New Delhi after completing a six-nation diplomatic tour. During the interaction, the ambassador updated Jaishankar on recent developments in India-Switzerland relations, including increased high-level engagements between the two countries.
The Embassy of India in Switzerland shared details of the meeting, stating that Ambassador Kumar welcomed Jaishankar during his transit stop in Zurich and briefed him on the progress of bilateral cooperation. The discussion highlighted the continued strengthening of diplomatic relations and growing collaboration between India and Switzerland.
The meeting took place after Jaishankar’s overseas visit covering Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, the United States, and Belgium. The tour focused on expanding India’s partnerships across key regions and addressing areas of mutual interest with international partners.
During his visit to Belgium, Jaishankar held discussions with European Union Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva in Brussels. The talks focused on opportunities for collaboration in clean and green energy technologies, innovation ecosystems, startup development, and India’s potential association with the European Union’s Horizon Europe research programme.
Jaishankar also participated in the first India-Belgium Strategic Dialogue with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot. The two leaders reviewed cooperation across several sectors, including politics, trade, investment, clean energy, defense, mobility, and pharmaceuticals.
The discussions also explored opportunities in ports, maritime cooperation, semiconductor development, and strengthening supply chains through risk diversification. Both sides exchanged views on major international developments, including ongoing situations in West Asia.
Jaishankar described the India-Belgium partnership as one that has expanded significantly in recent years. He highlighted that the strategic dialogue reflected both countries’ shared ambition to deepen cooperation and create new opportunities across multiple sectors.
The series of diplomatic engagements reflects India’s continued efforts to strengthen relationships with European nations and enhance collaboration in areas such as technology, innovation, energy security, and economic development. The latest discussions with Switzerland further underline the importance of expanding India’s global partnerships through sustained diplomatic engagement.
