India and Slovakia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, with both nations focusing on expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, defence, energy, and innovation.
India’s Ambassador to Slovakia, Apoorva Srivastava, recently met Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanar during a farewell meeting, where she expressed appreciation for his support and cooperation during her tenure. The meeting also highlighted India’s continued commitment to further developing the friendly partnership between the two countries.
The Indian Embassy in Slovakia stated that both sides remain confident about deepening their relationship and expanding collaboration across multiple areas in the coming years.
The discussions follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day state visit to Slovakia, during which he held meetings with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini. The visit focused on strengthening economic, strategic, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
During his meeting with President Pellegrini in Bratislava, PM Modi discussed opportunities to increase collaboration in manufacturing, transportation, innovation, investment, energy, biofuels, and digital technology. Both leaders also emphasized the importance of strengthening connections between the people of India and Slovakia.
As part of the visit, PM Modi and President Pellegrini attended an exhibition showcasing Varanasi’s cultural heritage, featuring artworks created by Slovak artists who had recently visited the Indian city. Slovakia also honored PM Modi with the Order of the White Double Cross (First Class), the country’s highest civilian award.
In discussions with Prime Minister Robert Fico, PM Modi reviewed the full range of India-Slovakia relations and explored new opportunities in sectors including trade and investment, defence and security, technology, space, nuclear energy, education, culture, and talent mobility.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including reforms at international institutions. They highlighted the potential benefits of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, noting that it could create significant opportunities in trade, manufacturing, investment, and employment generation.
Both countries agreed to elevate their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership, reflecting their shared goal of expanding cooperation. Several agreements and outcomes were identified in areas such as digital technology, defence, cybersecurity, advanced technologies, audiovisual industries, mobility, and scientific collaboration.
The growing partnership between India and Slovakia highlights India’s expanding engagement with European nations and creates new opportunities for economic, technological, and strategic cooperation.
