AAPICON 2026 turned Tampa into a vibrant destination for healthcare professionals, researchers, and community leaders as the five-day convention blended scientific discussions with cultural and spiritual experiences. Hosted at the JW Marriott and Tampa Marriott Water Street, the annual event highlighted the achievements of Indian American physicians while promoting education, collaboration, and community engagement.
Outgoing AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty described the convention as the organization’s flagship scientific gathering, setting the stage for a series of leadership transitions. Dr. Vijay Maurya assumed the role of Chairman of the AAPI Board of Trustees, emphasizing responsible financial management and sustainable growth. On July 4, Dr. Meher Medavaram officially took over as AAPI President, outlining her vision of unity, integrity, inclusion, and purpose while describing the Tampa convention as a defining moment for the association.
The convention featured an extensive scientific program that included Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions on lifestyle medicine, primary care, artificial intelligence in healthcare, cardiology, substance abuse, and the human microbiome. Young physicians and MSRF scholars presented research findings, while healthcare partners showcased the latest medical technologies and innovations through exhibitions and product demonstrations.
Beyond academics, the event embraced spirituality and culture. It opened with devotional prayers and bhajans led by Dr. Aarti Pandya. Inspirational addresses focused on compassion, service, philosophy, and mindful living, while daily meditation sessions provided attendees with opportunities for reflection throughout the convention.
Community recognition also played a major role during the gathering. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor presented the city’s key to Nita Ambani and Dr. Amit Chakrabarty and proclaimed July 2 and the July 4 weekend as AAPI Day in Tampa. The convention welcomed notable speakers, including Sania Mirza, who discussed women’s empowerment, and actor Vivek Oberoi, who shared his experiences supporting rural communities and initiatives focused on empowering women.
Healthcare executives and industry leaders participated in the CEO Forum to explore innovation, healthcare policy, and the future of medical services. Organizational meetings concluded with the ceremonial Presidential Gavel Exchange, symbolizing a smooth leadership transition within AAPI.
The cultural program featured performances by Kumar Sanu, music duo Vishal-Shekhar, young singer Pranysqa Mishra, comedian Nimesh Patel, and a Tampa Bay cruise celebration with live entertainment.
The convention concluded by honoring Nita Ambani with the AAPI Humanitarian Award. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Achyuta Samanta praised AAPI for strengthening ties between India and the United States while promoting the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” emphasizing the idea that the world is one family.
