US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s planned trip to India has once again highlighted the growing strategic significance of the Quad alliance and the strengthening relationship between Washington and New Delhi. Ahead of the upcoming diplomatic meetings in the Indian capital, the US Embassy emphasized that cooperation among Quad nations remains critical for maintaining a secure, open, and resilient Indo-Pacific region.
In a social media post featuring the foreign ministers of the Quad nations, the embassy underlined the group’s shared commitment toward regional stability, economic cooperation, and the diversification of critical supply chains. The Quad alliance includes India, the United States, Australia, and Japan, all of which continue working together on security, trade, technology, and regional development initiatives.
India is scheduled to host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on May 26. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will welcome Rubio along with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi for high-level diplomatic discussions expected to focus on strategic coordination and regional cooperation.
Before departing for India, Rubio spoke about the importance of deepening ties with New Delhi, especially in the energy sector. Addressing reporters during a stop in Miami before his Europe transit, Rubio said the United States is prepared to significantly expand energy exports to India amid growing concerns over global supply disruptions connected to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
Rubio stressed that the US aims to strengthen energy collaboration by supplying India with greater quantities of oil and gas as American production and exports continue reaching record levels. According to him, ongoing discussions between both countries are already progressing, and further talks during the India visit could create new opportunities for long-term cooperation.
Describing India as one of Washington’s most trusted strategic partners, Rubio praised the growing collaboration between the two democracies across multiple sectors. He noted that both countries continue working closely on several international issues while expanding diplomatic and economic engagement.
The US Secretary of State also highlighted the importance of the Quad framework, recalling that his very first official diplomatic engagement after taking office involved a meeting with Quad representatives. Rubio stated that the grouping remains central to regional stability efforts and confirmed that another Quad-level engagement is expected later this year, reinforcing the alliance’s long-term strategic goals.
