India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, focusing on enhancing people-to-people exchanges and addressing shared economic and strategic priorities. The discussions took place during a meeting in Tokyo between India’s Ambassador to Japan Nagma Mallick and Japan’s Minister of Justice Hiroshi Hiraguchi.
During the meeting, both sides explored new ways to strengthen cultural and human resource connections between the two nations. A key point of discussion was the India-Japan Action Plan on Human Resource Exchange and Cooperation, which aims to promote greater mobility, skill development, and collaboration between institutions in both countries.
The Indian Embassy in Japan shared details of the meeting on social media, noting that the talks also covered broader issues of mutual interest. Officials emphasized the importance of continued engagement to further deepen ties between India and Japan across multiple sectors.
This dialogue comes shortly after the second round of the India-Japan Economic Security Dialogue held in New Delhi on May 11. During that meeting, senior officials from both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in critical industries to improve supply chain resilience amid global economic uncertainties.
Both sides reviewed challenges related to economic security, including concerns over economic coercion, non-market practices, and production imbalances in global trade. They also exchanged views on policy responses to safeguard national interests while ensuring stable supply chains for essential goods.
The discussions placed strong emphasis on priority sectors identified in a joint statement issued in August last year. These include semiconductors, critical minerals, information and communication technology, clean energy, and pharmaceuticals. Both countries agreed to encourage greater collaboration between the public and private sectors to support innovation and industrial growth.
In addition, officials held a Foreign Vice-Ministers’ Dialogue covering regional developments in the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East. Topics included energy security, resource stability, and the situation in Iran, with both sides acknowledging the need for closer coordination in a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment.
India and Japan also reiterated their long-term vision for cooperation, as outlined in the “Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade.” Both nations committed to accelerating investment-led growth, technological innovation, and economic security partnerships, reflecting their shared goal of building a stronger and more resilient global partnership.
