India reaffirmed its uncompromising stance against terrorism during a commemorative event at the United Nations marking the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh led the event, highlighting India’s continued commitment to combating terrorism in all forms and praising the armed forces for their decisive response during the 2025 conflict with Pakistan.
Addressing the gathering at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Singh stated that India’s resolve to fight terrorism remains “strong as ever.” He paid tribute to the professionalism and bravery of the Indian armed forces, describing their role during Operation Sindoor as exemplary and crucial to safeguarding national security.
Operation Sindoor was launched after Pakistan-based terrorists crossed into India and carried out a deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 Indian tourists. The Resistance Front, an affiliate of the UN-designated terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the assault. In response, India targeted terror infrastructure linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed inside Pakistan.
The military operation escalated into a broader conflict after Pakistan’s armed forces intervened in support of the terror groups and launched attacks against India. Indian forces retaliated strongly, reportedly damaging several Pakistani air force and missile bases before a ceasefire was requested by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations.
Indian officials emphasized that the operation demonstrated the country’s readiness to respond firmly to terrorism while maintaining strategic restraint. The commemorative event also underscored India’s continued efforts to strengthen international cooperation against terrorism.
The United Nations Security Council had earlier condemned the Pahalgam attack, describing terrorism as one of the gravest threats to international peace and security. The Council stated that acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation or perpetrators.
India used the occasion to renew its global call for zero tolerance toward terrorism and for stronger international action against states and groups supporting extremist violence.
