Indian American Impact has officially announced its endorsement of Saddam Salim for the U.S. Congress seat in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, marking a significant show of support for one of the rising South Asian American political figures in the state. The organization highlighted Salim’s lived experience, public service record, and long-standing commitment to community-focused leadership.
Chintan Patel, the Executive Director of Indian American Impact, stated that Salim represents the resilience and determination often seen in immigrant communities across the United States. Patel emphasized that Salim is not simply a candidate who speaks about issues such as immigrant rights or reducing financial pressure on working families, but someone who has actively worked on these priorities throughout his career in public office. His personal journey, which includes facing homelessness and financial instability as a first-generation immigrant, was cited as a powerful example of overcoming adversity and translating lived experience into meaningful public service.
According to Patel, since entering electoral politics, Salim has demonstrated consistent leadership in the Virginia State Senate, where he has advocated for immigrant communities and worked on policies aimed at improving economic opportunities for working households. The endorsement also highlighted his ability to challenge established political structures while maintaining a focus on practical outcomes and community needs.
Saddam Salim expressed appreciation for the endorsement, noting that Indian American Impact played a key role in his initial Senate campaign in 2023. He credited the organization’s early support as an important factor in his ability to win a competitive race against a well-established political opponent. Salim added that continued backing in the current primary would be crucial as he seeks to replicate that success in his congressional bid.
Indian American Impact, founded in 2016, has grown into a major force in increasing South Asian and Indian American representation in U.S. politics. The organization has supported more than 200 candidates nationwide, contributing to a broader wave of diversity in elected office. Over the years, it has helped mobilize more than $20 million in campaign support, alongside extensive grassroots organizing and voter outreach efforts aimed at increasing civic participation within South Asian American communities.
Through its endorsement of Salim, the organization continues its mission of elevating leaders who reflect the diversity and lived experiences of modern America, while strengthening political engagement and representation at every level of government.
