India’s coffee exports witnessed a significant surge during the first four months of 2026, registering a 27 percent year-on-year increase. Export volumes reached approximately 1.25 lakh tonnes between January and April, reflecting strong global demand, particularly for robusta beans and instant coffee.
The growth was largely driven by increased shipments to key international markets, including Europe, West Asia, and several emerging economies. India’s competitiveness in the robusta segment has improved due to attractive pricing and consistent quality, enabling exporters to gain a stronger foothold in global trade.
In addition to raw beans, instant coffee has emerged as a major contributor to export growth. Rising global consumption and the expanding market for value-added coffee products have boosted demand, allowing Indian exporters to diversify their offerings and tap into new consumer segments.
The upward trend in exports has also been supported by improved crop output and stable supply chain conditions. Favorable global price movements have further encouraged higher shipments, creating a positive environment for exporters.
India’s diverse export basket, which includes green coffee, roasted coffee, and processed variants, has helped reduce reliance on specific markets and provided flexibility in responding to changing demand patterns. This diversified approach has strengthened the country’s resilience in the competitive global coffee industry.
Efforts to improve quality standards, sustainability practices, and traceability have also enhanced India’s reputation among international buyers. These initiatives have played a key role in building trust and expanding long-term trade relationships.
Looking ahead, India’s coffee exports are expected to maintain steady growth, supported by continued global demand, competitive pricing, and the increasing popularity of instant coffee products. The overall performance highlights the strength of India’s plantation sector and its growing influence in global agricultural markets.
