India and the United States intensified engagement across trade, defence, and critical technology sectors during Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s three-day visit to Washington. The agenda included high-level meetings at the Pentagon, the Department of Commerce, and public events aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment.
Misri, alongside Ambassador Vinay Kwatra, inaugurated the India-US Trade Facilitation Portal, a key initiative supporting “Mission 500.” The platform, now open for exporter registrations, is designed to simplify market access, foster commercial linkages, and unlock the full potential of trade between the two nations.
At the Pentagon, Misri held a constructive dialogue with Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Mike Duffey, focusing on strengthening defence industrial cooperation, technology transfer, and supply chain integration. He also met Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby for a broad discussion on developments in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia, following their prior interaction in New Delhi. These defence talks highlighted the growing emphasis on collaborative technology, industrial capabilities, and strategic coordination.
In parallel, meetings at the Department of Commerce with Under Secretaries Jeffrey Kessler and William Kimmitt centered on expanding cooperation in commercial and critical technologies while enhancing resilient and trusted supply chains. The series of discussions reflects a coordinated effort to align economic priorities with strategic objectives, particularly in emerging technologies and secure industrial networks.
The visit complements External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s trip to Washington in February and continues the ongoing rhythm of high-level exchanges under the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Military engagement added further momentum, with Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh visiting Peterson Space Force Base and interacting with General Gregory M. Guillot to exchange perspectives on complex operational modalities.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit offered an opportunity to review the full spectrum of India-US relations, advancing collaboration in trade, defence, science and technology, as well as regional and global developments of mutual interest. Bilateral trade has been steadily increasing, and initiatives such as the Trade Facilitation Portal are expected to further support exporters and deepen economic integration, strengthening the partnership for years to come.
