India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates as part of a multi-nation diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral and strategic ties. The visit reflects India’s continued focus on regional cooperation and its broader global outreach.
During his visit to Mauritius, Jaishankar will participate in the 9th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference, where he is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. The conference serves as a key platform for dialogue on pressing regional and global challenges in the Indian Ocean region, bringing together leaders, policymakers, and experts from across the world.
On the sidelines of the conference, the minister is expected to hold discussions with Mauritian leadership to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. The engagement underscores India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its commitment to fostering closer ties with countries in the region, while also advancing its Vision MAHASAGAR initiative focused on maritime cooperation and regional development.
In the second leg of the visit, Jaishankar will travel to the United Arab Emirates for high-level meetings with the country’s leadership. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, covering areas such as trade, energy, and regional security.
The visit comes at a time of evolving geopolitical developments, particularly in West Asia, where recent diplomatic efforts have aimed at easing tensions. India’s outreach to key partners in the region highlights its role as an active participant in promoting stability and cooperation.
The Indian Ocean Conference, jointly organised by policy institutions and partner governments, continues to play an important role in shaping dialogue around maritime security, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and geopolitical dynamics in the region. This year’s theme emphasises collective stewardship, reflecting the need for collaborative approaches to shared challenges.
Through this visit, India aims to deepen its engagement with both Mauritius and the UAE, reinforcing longstanding partnerships and exploring new avenues of cooperation in an increasingly interconnected global landscape.
