Denis Alipov, Russia’s Ambassador to India, has said that Moscow firmly rejects what it described as US “pressure” on India’s oil market, emphasising that New Delhi continues to follow an independent foreign policy.
In an interview, Alipov stated that attempts by the United States to create obstacles for Russia in the Indian market are not an appropriate way to conduct global business or manage international relations.
“We firmly reject any pressure in international politics. This is not the right way to conduct business,” he said, while declining to comment directly on US-India trade dynamics.
The envoy noted that there are visible efforts to hinder Russia’s presence in India’s energy market but stressed that such approaches are counterproductive. He added that India has consistently demonstrated its ability to make independent policy decisions.
Alipov also highlighted the strengthening of ties between Russia and India, particularly in the energy sector, noting a significant increase in Russian oil exports to India in recent years.
“We continue to expand bilateral trade and economic relations. The volumes of Russian oil supplies to India have increased substantially, and we remain committed to further growth for the mutual benefit of both countries,” he said.
Referring to broader geopolitical developments, the envoy pointed to volatility in global energy markets amid tensions in West Asia, suggesting that such conditions have further underscored the importance of stable bilateral partnerships.
On diplomatic engagements, Alipov said Russia would warmly welcome a visit by Narendra Modi this year, noting the ongoing tradition of annual summit exchanges between the two nations.
The remarks highlight the continued resilience of India-Russia ties, particularly in the energy domain, even as global geopolitical pressures intensify.
