The United States and India are moving closer to finalising a key agreement on critical minerals that could significantly strengthen strategic cooperation and supply chains between the two countries, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said on Friday.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, Gor highlighted the deepening partnership between the two nations, saying the growing engagement reflects a relationship that goes beyond traditional trade ties.
“The US and India are paying close attention to each other, which reflects something deeper — a partnership that is continuing to grow stronger,” the ambassador said.
His remarks come shortly after both countries agreed on a framework for a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) aimed at expanding economic cooperation and strengthening trade relations.
Gor noted that under US President Donald Trump, ties between the two countries have the potential to reach “global heights,” emphasising that both sides are now working to unlock new opportunities for collaboration.
“What was needed was momentum and opportunities, and we are now moving towards unlocking those opportunities and that potential,” he said.
The ambassador stressed that the partnership between India and the United States is not limited to tariffs or market access but also focuses on securing critical resources and strengthening supply chains that will shape the global economy in the coming decades.
“This partnership is not just about tariffs or market access, but also about securing resources and supply chains that will define the global economy of the future,” he added.
Highlighting a key area of cooperation, Gor said critical minerals have emerged as one of the most important aspects of collaboration between the two countries.
“Reliable and diversified supply chains for critical minerals are indispensable to both economic growth and national security,” he said.
According to the ambassador, the two countries are very close to finalising an agreement on critical minerals that will help secure supplies needed for advanced manufacturing, energy systems and emerging technologies.
“Within the next few months, there will be a big announcement on this front,” he said.
Gor also pointed to expanding cooperation in high-technology sectors, including the semiconductor industry, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated new facilities and celebrated progress in the sector.
In addition, he said the United States remains a reliable supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is ready to support India’s growing energy needs in the coming years.
The remarks underline the growing strategic alignment between the two nations as they seek to strengthen economic cooperation, diversify supply chains and deepen collaboration in technology, energy and emerging industries.
