India’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, met with Japan’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Hayashi Yoshimasa, on Tuesday to discuss the growing and excellent collaboration between the two nations across multiple sectors. Following the discussions, the Indian Embassy in Japan highlighted on X that the meeting focused on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in all fields.
This engagement follows a series of high-level interactions between India and Japan. On Saturday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with counterparts from the G4 nations—India, Germany, Japan, and Brazil—during the Munich Security Conference 2026. Jaishankar emphasized the significance of reformed multilateralism and posted on X about the first-time G4 meeting held alongside the conference.
Earlier in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her landmark electoral victory. Modi expressed confidence that under her leadership, the India-Japan friendship would reach “greater heights,” reinforcing the importance of their Special Strategic and Global Partnership in promoting global peace, stability, and prosperity.
PM Modi and PM Takaichi previously held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025, where they discussed advancing cooperation in critical areas such as innovation, defense, talent mobility, and trade. Modi highlighted on X that the meeting was “productive” and noted that strengthening the India-Japan partnership is vital for addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development.
Together, these diplomatic efforts underscore India and Japan’s commitment to expanding collaboration across sectors, enhancing trade and innovation, and deepening strategic ties that contribute to a stronger, more prosperous global partnership.
