Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Order of Oman on Thursday, the Sultanate’s distinguished civilian honor, by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in recognition of his efforts to enhance bilateral relations between India and Oman. The award was presented during PM Modi’s ongoing two-day visit to Muscat, which represents the final leg of his three-nation tour, following stops in Jordan and Ethiopia.
This accolade adds to PM Modi’s growing collection of over 28 prestigious civilian awards from foreign nations, which recently include Ethiopia’s Great Honour Nishan and Kuwait’s Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, reflecting his global diplomatic engagement and contributions to strengthening international partnerships.
His visit to Oman coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The discussions during this visit have focused on deepening the strategic partnership, encompassing areas such as trade, investment, energy cooperation, defence collaboration, and cultural exchange. Both nations are committed to leveraging this historic milestone to further strengthen ties and explore new avenues of cooperation.
PM Modi arrived in Muscat on Wednesday, where he was warmly received by Omani officials, including a ceremonial guard of honor. His itinerary during the visit includes high-level meetings with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, where both leaders are expected to discuss ongoing projects, bilateral trade opportunities, and initiatives aimed at fostering mutual growth and strategic collaboration in the region.
The award and the visit underscore India’s emphasis on cultivating strong relations with Oman, reflecting decades of friendship, shared interests, and collaborative efforts across multiple sectors. Through such engagements, India aims to reinforce its strategic presence in the Gulf region while enhancing trade, investment, and cultural linkages that benefit both nations.
