Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said India is on course to become the world’s largest developer community by 2030, driven by its expanding talent pool and rising leadership in next-generation AI innovation. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Nadella highlighted how emerging tools and platforms are reshaping the way software is built, applications are designed, and multi-agent AI systems are created.
He said India is projected to have more than 57 million developers by 2030, surpassing all other markets and positioning the country at the forefront of global software innovation. According to him, developers in India are increasingly using GitHub, Azure, and Microsoft’s new AI platforms to work on advanced projects that were once limited to specialised research labs.
Nadella outlined Microsoft’s integrated “tool chain” for building AI applications, including AppBuilder, Copilot Studio, and Foundry, which together enable developers to choose, evaluate, and deploy the right models with confidence. He emphasised that the future of software development will not revolve around a single AI model but around a broader ecosystem that empowers developers to create solutions at scale.
He added that Microsoft is investing significantly in this ecosystem to ensure that developers in India can build next-generation applications that seamlessly connect with the data and systems used across industries.
Microsoft also announced a commitment to invest $17.5 billion in India over the next four years, marking its largest investment in Asia. The announcement followed Nadella’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on X, Nadella expressed appreciation for the discussion and said the investment would help India build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities required to accelerate its AI-driven future.
The renewed commitment underscores India’s fast-growing role in global technology development and the strengthening partnership between Microsoft and the country’s expanding digital ecosystem.
