Fans who have long wished to see Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone together on the big screen again may finally get their moment. According to new reports, the beloved pair is set to reunite in a contemporary adaptation of the classic Chori Chori, with Ayan Mukerji stepping in as director. This marks a significant comeback for one of Bollywood’s most cherished on-screen duos, whose chemistry in films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to be celebrated even years later.
Industry sources suggest that the upcoming film draws inspiration from the 1956 Raj Kapoor–Nargis starrer Chori Chori, though it will not follow the original plot line-by-line. Instead, the adaptation is expected to retain the heart of the story while placing it in a modern setting. Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly preparing to revive the legendary RK Films banner with this project, making it his first film produced under the relaunched family label.
If finalized, the film will bring Ranbir and Deepika together on screen after a decade. Their last collaboration was Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha in 2015. Fans still fondly recall their performances in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, also directed by Ayan Mukerji, which remains a cultural favorite. Their return has sparked strong excitement online, particularly after Deepika liked a fan-made video urging filmmakers to cast the duo together again—an action that did not go unnoticed by social media users.
Ranbir Kapoor is currently immersed in several major projects, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, set to release next August and featuring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. He is also working on Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana. Deepika Padukone, meanwhile, is filming Atlee’s next project alongside Allu Arjun and is also part of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action film King, scheduled for release next year.
The original Chori Chori, directed by Anant Thakur, told the charming tale of a runaway heiress and a witty reporter who cross paths under unexpected circumstances. Blending humor, romance, and subtle social themes, it has remained a beloved classic in Indian cinema. With a fresh vision from Ayan Mukerji and the return of Ranbir and Deepika’s iconic pairing, the modern adaptation is already shaping up to be one of Bollywood’s most anticipated films.
