Yami Gautam is reveling in the success of her latest release, OMG 2. Following a fan’s accolades for her performance in the film and the observation that she’s ‘under-utilized’ within the industry, Yami responded with honesty. She shared her genuine insights regarding the industry’s heavy reliance on ‘marketing,’ while emphasizing her prioritization of script depth. In the film, Yami portrays a lawyer.
On X, a fan lauded Yami’s performance in OMG 2, expressing, “@yamigautam manages to SURPRISE us with her performance! #OMG2 is no exception. She owns each frame she’s in! Even her silence speaks a lot. I hate the term ‘underrated’. I’d just say she’s under-utilised by our filmmakers.”
In her reply, Yami articulated, “Success may come overnight or demand years of persistent proving. Some excel in marketing their talent, while others let their talent speak for itself. I focus on identifying compelling scripts and diverse characters. I don’t engage extensively in marketing.”
She acknowledged the industry’s inclination towards prioritizing marketing over script quality, which may explain the perception of her being under-utilized. Despite this, she expressed gratitude for the encouraging words and affirmed her commitment to gradual progress, one film at a time.
Umesh Shukla directs OMG 2, a sequel to the 2012 film OMG – Oh My God. The current film, helmed by Amit Rai, features Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. It garnered $0.12 million on its release’s first day and $0.18 million on the second, accumulating a total of $0.31 million so far.
