On Friday, Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi raised alarms about China potentially backing Republican Donald Trump in the November presidential race. During his speech at the Democratic National Conference in Chicago, Krishnamoorthi suggested that China is strategically aiming to weaken the United States by fostering internal divisions.
Drawing attention to a book titled “America Against America” by a senior Chinese official, Krishnamoorthi pointed out that China’s belief is that the U.S. can only be defeated if Americans turn against one another.
He also cautioned that Trump’s policies, such as igniting trade wars and slashing worker training programs, could serve China’s interests by exacerbating domestic strife.
Krishnamoorthi, who represents Illinois’ eighth Congressional district and serves as the ranking member of the China committee in the House of Representatives, was the only Indian-American Congressman to speak at the DNC. His comments emphasised the critical need for unity in the face of external challenges. He emphasised that China is eager to see Donald Trump at the negotiating table, as his actions would likely trigger trade wars that increase costs for Americans and lead to cuts in worker training programs. Most critically, Trump’s approach could turn Americans against one another, which aligns perfectly with China’s goal of creating internal strife within the U.S.
The upcoming U.S. presidential election on November 5 will have Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as key candidates.
