Praising the strong ties between the United States and India, the White House emphasized on Monday that President Joe Biden regards the relationship between the two nations as one of the most significant globally. The administration highlighted that both countries collaborate closely on key issues of mutual interest.
During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre underscored the close cooperation between the U.S. and India on important priorities, such as the QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue). She noted that President Biden considers the U.S.-India relationship to be among the most consequential in the world, with both nations working together on critical and emerging technologies through initiatives like the QUAD.
Jean-Pierre also emphasized the U.S.’s desire to further deepen its “critically important partnership” with India, with a focus on mutual benefits. She stated that the U.S. aims to continue expanding this partnership, which will contribute to a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region and the broader world.
The U.S. maintains a strong diplomatic partnership with India, Australia, and Japan through the QUAD, a coalition committed to promoting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient. On July 29 in Tokyo, the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting saw participation from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Australia’s Penny Wong.
During the meeting, the leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to upholding and strengthening the international order for the global good. They also expressed their anticipation for India to host the next Quad Leaders’ Summit later this year and for the United States to host the subsequent Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in 2025.
In a joint statement following the meeting, the Quad nations reaffirmed their collective efforts to advance a positive and practical agenda aimed at supporting the sustainable development, stability, and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region. The statement emphasized the bloc’s commitment to fostering an environment where all countries and people can freely choose how to cooperate and trade, based on principles of partnership, equality, and mutual respect.
