The White House affirmed that the United States’ relationship with India is “strong and getting stronger,” underlining President Joe Biden’s commitment to enhancing this bilateral partnership. As his presidency approaches its conclusion, the administration reflected on the advancements made with India, stating that Biden will take pride in the deepening ties when he looks back on his term.
John Kirby, National Security Communications Advisor, characterized the relationship in three words: “strong, and getting stronger,” during a press briefing in response to a query from PTI about the evolution of US-India relations during Biden’s presidency and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Kirby emphasized that Biden has made significant investments in the bilateral relationship, particularly highlighting the importance of their strategic partnership. He noted the elevation of the Quad—comprising Australia, Japan, India, and the US—to a leader-level forum, with PM Modi participating in an official state visit last June.
“We’ve elevated our strategic partnership to the highest level,” Kirby stated, adding that they are developing a defense relationship that enhances safety not only for India but for the entire Indo-Pacific region.
He also mentioned Biden’s deep respect for PM Modi’s insights, recognizing Modi as the leader of one of the world’s most vibrant democracies. Kirby concluded that as Biden reflects on his term, he will take pride in having strengthened the US-India relationship and making it more inclusive.
