Vivek Ramaswamy responded candidly to an Iowa caucusgoer’s query regarding the possibility of inviting former president Donald Trump as his running mate if he secures the Republican presidential nomination. At a recent Iowa campaign event, the Indian-American candidate deemed it a “reasonable choice” and shared the interaction on X, acknowledging it as the fourth instance of such a question in two weeks.
Addressing the voter’s inquiry, Ramaswamy expressed the sensitivity of the prospect, emphasizing Trump’s senior and mentor-like role despite their age difference. He acknowledged the former president’s age, stating, “He is going to be in his 80s,” and suggested that such a role would be fitting for a senior statesman passing the torch to the next generation, given Trump’s experience and the challenges he has faced.
Ramaswamy acknowledged the difficulty in envisioning Trump accepting the VP offer and emphasized his commitment to selecting a vice president who surpasses him in certain aspects. The entrepreneur-turned-politician clarified his stance on not playing it safe in choosing a running mate.
A longstanding supporter of Trump since the latter’s candidacy announcement, Ramaswamy demonstrated his loyalty by threatening to withdraw from primary elections in states where Trump’s name was removed from the ballots. Additionally, he pledged to pardon Trump for any criminal indictments. In turn, Trump, a prominent figure among GOP voters, reciprocated the admiration for Ramaswamy, creating a mutual exchange of praise between the two.
