During a recent podcast interview, former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy revealed that he is contemplating a run for Governor of Ohio. The Ohio native shared with Patrick Bet-David on the “PBD Podcast” that he has been approached by numerous Ohioans urging him to consider this opportunity.
Ramaswamy acknowledged that if the question had been posed to him six months ago, he would have declined. However, he noted that public sentiment has shifted, and he feels compelled to respond to the requests of his fellow citizens. “Public service is about serving the public,” he remarked, indicating a willingness to explore this possibility despite not having a lifelong aspiration for the role.
As the current Governor, Mike DeWine, is ineligible for re-election in 2026 after serving two terms, the position is open for new candidates. Additionally, Ramaswamy was asked about the prospect of running for the Ohio Senate seat currently held by JD Vance, who has been selected as former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the upcoming election. Vance, in a previous interview, stated that while he is focused on the election, he would consider running for Senate if needed.
Ramaswamy’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race was announced at an Iowa watch party in January, where he expressed gratitude to his supporters and endorsed Trump. He finished fourth in the Iowa caucuses with 7.7 percent of the vote, trailing Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
In discussing Vance’s selection as Vice President, Ramaswamy noted the challenges that lie ahead for whoever takes his place in the Ohio Senate, emphasizing Vance’s role as a strong advocate in that chamber. “He was one of our toughest fighters, and he leaves a significant gap in the Senate,” Ramaswamy remarked.
