Vinay Pai, an Indian American tech executive, has recently been chosen as a trustee on the board of Rice University for a four-year term starting from July 1, 2023. The appointment of Pai, along with two other individuals, was announced by Rice University, based in Houston, on May 23, 2023.
Pai, an alumnus of Rice University, currently serves as an advisor to the CEO and previously held the position of Chief Technology Officer at Bill.com, a financial services provider specializing in digital business payment solutions. He has also led engineering teams at Intuit Online Payroll and QuickBooks Online, where he introduced high availability, disaster recovery measures, and launched new global offerings, as mentioned in his biography.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Pai stated, “I am honored to join the Rice University Board of Trustees. I look forward to collaborating with President Reginald DesRoches, Chair Rob Ladd, and the other trustees.”
Within Rice University, Pai serves as the chair of both the Engineering Advisory Board and the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advancement Committee. Earlier in his career, he founded a startup focused on the Apple platform, which delivered three products with a team of three individuals. Pai obtained dual degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering in 1988 and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) in 1991, all from Rice University.
According to his biography, Pai is a parent to a Rice graduate and has two siblings who are also Rice alumni. He and his family currently reside in Los Altos Hills, California.
