The first poster of Valmiki Ramayana has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into a cinematic adaptation that aims to capture the spiritual depth and timeless essence of one of India’s most revered epics.
Directed by Bhavna Talwar, the film is being envisioned as a theatrical experience rooted in faith, simplicity, and authenticity. The makers have emphasised a storytelling approach that remains true to the spirit of the original text while delivering emotional resonance.
The screenplay has been written by Anand Neelakantan, drawing directly from the original Valmiki Ramayana. The project brings together a strong creative team, including renowned production designer Sabu Cyril, cinematographer Binod Pradhan, and Academy Award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty.
Adding further depth, filmmaker and scholar Chandraprakash Dwivedi serves as the creative consultant and dialogue writer, contributing his expertise in Indian history and mythology.
The film’s narrative will focus on the spiritual and emotional core of the epic rather than relying solely on spectacle, aiming to create a meaningful and immersive cinematic experience for audiences across generations.
The Valmiki Ramayana, one of the earliest Sanskrit epics, narrates the journey of Lord Ram, including his exile, the abduction of Sita by Ravana, and her eventual rescue with the help of Hanuman. It explores themes of duty (dharma), morality, leadership, and devotion.
Serving as a foundational text of Indian literature, the epic has inspired countless adaptations across South and Southeast Asia over centuries.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 2, positioning itself as a culturally rich and spiritually grounded retelling of the timeless classic.
