Indian American policy expert Vaishu Jawahar, formerly the Domestic Policy Coordinator for Vice President Kamala Harris, has taken on a new role at Waxman Strategies, a progressive public affairs firm. She joins their health practice team as a director, bringing her wealth of experience and dedication to healthcare advocacy to the organization.
Waxman Strategies expressed their appreciation for Jawahar’s commitment to healthcare advocacy, highlighting her contributions to the Committee to Protect Health Care, the Biden Campaign, and other impactful organizations.
Previously, Jawahar interned with the White House Domestic Policy Council’s Health and Veterans team, where she played a crucial role in implementing the National Strategy on Hunger, Health, and Nutrition. Her responsibilities included drafting memos and talking points for senior officials on various topics within the healthcare sphere, ranging from maternal health to FDA regulation.
Throughout her career, Jawahar collaborated with numerous healthcare advocacy organizations and political campaigns, including the Committee to Protect Health Care, the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign, and the Obama 2012 campaign. Her advocacy efforts led to significant achievements, such as safeguarding reproductive rights in Michigan, expanding Medicaid in North Carolina, and establishing paid sick leave for 30,000 Virginia employees. Her work also garnered substantial media coverage, including 517 TV appearances, 351 written articles, $17.5 million in earned media, and headlines on major news outlets like CNN and Axios.
Jawahar holds a Master’s in Medical Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor’s in Biology, specializing in Public Health and Political Science, at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
